This weekend Kamena Rally Team crew will take part in Hungarian rally, Riverside Baja. Tomasz Białkowski and Dariusz Baśkiewicz have one aim for this event – tell their rivals “check-mate!”.
The beginning of the rally season for Kamena Rally Team crew, Tomasz Białkowski and Dariusz Baśkiewicz, looked like a checkerboard. Their first start this year in Adrenalin Cup Bugac, taking place in Hungary, didn’t go without problems. In the first part of the rally, where they were fighting for points in CEZ classification, broken clutch and 3 torn belts stripped them of the chance for the victory. Nevertheless, Kamena Rally Team collected points for 2nd place in CEZ and for 5th place in Hungarian Championship. The second part of the rally was the 2nd round of Hungarian Championship, and here Tomasz Białkowski and Dariusz Baśkiewicz were second to none, thanks to what they came back home from Hungarian routes with their first victory this year.
Polish Wysoka Grzęda Baja Drawsko was the second event, where they were fighting for points in CEZ, and for the first points in Polish Championship as well. It started great –winning the prologue – and Kamena Rally Team could count for their next triumph. Unfortunately, in SS2 the driveshaft in their CanAm Maverick X3 broke, making them unable to win the rally. Nevertheless, Tomasz Białkowski and Dariusz Baśkiewicz brought home from Drawsko Pomorskie cups for 2nd place in Polish Championship and 3rd place in CEZ. On 10th-11th May they will take part in Riverside Baja, held in Hungary, where they will again fight for points in CEZ and Hungarian Championship. They hope that the “checkerboard rule” will work again and that they’ll win the rally, saying “check-mate!” to their rivals.
“We like trips to Hungarian rallies very much, where the journey itself is an adventure! It’s already our third trip to that country, and we know more or less what to expect. Very friendly atmosphere among competitors, marshals and organizers and beautiful sunny weather – that’s obvious, and the result? It depends on whether mechanical issues finally stop bothering us,” Tomasz Białkowski says.
Riverside Baja for Kamena Rally Team crew is a new rally. They’ll take part in it for the first time. The fight will be very fierce, because there are 15 SSV crews entered for the rally! Most of them are local drivers, who know those tracks very well.
“Last year we participated in the Raid of Champions, which was held in these surroundings. We liked those tracks very much and we are happy that we’ll race again in that terrain. We haven’t been to Riverside Baja yet, so we’re not sure what terrains, what surfaces we can expect there. But we watched videos and photos from former editions, so we have some image of those tracks. Hungarian competitors have raced here for many years, so in terms of that they’ll certainly have an advantage over us. But we will do our best to stand on the podium there,” Dariusz Baśkiewicz says.
Riverside Baja starts on 10th May. 3 special stages, 11 km each, will be run that day. For 11th May organizers planned 4 stages, 70 km each. The rally will end on Saturday afternoon with prizegiving ceremony. Tomasz Białkowski and Dariusz Baśkiewicz count on coming back from Hungary with cups for victory and telling their rivals “check-mate!”.
