Kuba Przygoński and Timo Gottschalk will take part in Dubai Baja in a new car – MINI John Cooper Works Buggy. The rally takes place on 7-9th March.
The beginning of the season for Przygoński is a time of multiple changes. A few weeks ago new co-driver, Timo Gottschalk joined him, and now the driver of Orlen Team switches to a new car. This year’s Dubai Baja will be a good occasion to test the vehicle characterized by 2-wheel drive. Orlen Team crew wants to drive faster thanks to it and repeat last year’s success: winning in Dubai.
“It’s a test participation, during which I’ll check how I cope with the car that has only rear-wheel drive. It may seem surprising that this kind of vehicle can successfully drive in sand and dunes, but the buggy is prepared for it. Weight is apportioned to rear wheels to ballast rear axle. Buggies are allowed to have a bigger suspension travel and bigger tires than 4x4, that gives them higher speed, and they can also be 200 kg lighter. All these elements make this car more competitive. Dubai Baja will be one of the tests, after which I’d like to make a decision as for the choice of car for Dakar Rally”, says Kuba Przygoński, the driver of Orlen Team.
One of the main rivals of Orlen Team crew will be Khalid Al-Qassimi (Peugeot 3008 DKR), who’s starting in his own country and has a victory in Dubai in 2015 under his belt. Vladimir Vasiliev (Toyota Hilux) and Martin Prokop (Ford Raptor RS Cross Country) should be those who will also fight for the highest positions.
The rally has started with an official start ceremony on Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, competitors will tackle two special stages of about 200 km each. Dubai Baja is the 2nd round of FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas.
