Kuba Przygoński and Timo Gottschalk won Dubai International Baja 2019. Orlen Team crew finished Saturday’s stage with 2nd time and repeated last year’s success.
The goal for Przygoński and Gottschalk on the last 205 km long stage of Dubai International Baja was to fight with Khalid Al-Qassimi (Peugeot 3008 DKR) for victory. After the first stage, Orlen Team crew was losing 48 seconds to the Emirati driver. The rivalry lasted until the last kilometers and ended with a success of the Orlen Team crew driving MINI John Cooper Works Buggy for the first time.
“We won Dubai Baja and we are very happy, especially because it’s our first victory with MINI Buggy. We have a good race and lots of fight in the last stage behind us. We caught Al-Qassimi, and later we were driving together. Unfortunately, 10 km before the finish we got stuck and it was a stressful moment. We knew that if we dug out quickly, we would have a chance to win. We were risking a lot on the last part, we jumped from all dunes, but the car survived, and we won. MINI Buggy worked flawlessly, and cooperation with Timo was very good. We are very satisfied with winning Dubai Baja for the second time and it is another good sign,” says Kuba Przygoński, driver of Orlen Team.
2nd place went to Khalid Al-Qassimi, who reached the finish of Saturday’s stage with 4th time. The lowest step of the podium was taken by Martin Prokop (Ford Raptor RS Cross Country), and right behind him was Vladimir Vasiliev (Toyota Hilux), winner of Saturday’s stage.
The event in UAE was already the 2nd round of FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas. It was the first participation of the Orlen Team crew in this series.
