Orlen Team’s crew started 5-days competition in Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. After first special Kuba Przygoński and Timo Gottschalk reached the finish with 5th time. But it wasn’t easy. Only 5 km before the finish their car lost one driveshaft.
The beginning of the first special of the rally was very successful for the crew of Orlen Team. Kuba Przygoński and Timo Gottschalk started dynamically and for a long time kept up with top crews. For 225 km the crew was leading. Unfortunately, 5 km before the finish Buggy lost one driveshaft and the car completely stopped.
“We would like to thank Martin Prokop for help. Just before the finish we lost one driveshaft, what made us unable to go further. His team towed us and thanks to it we finished the stage. That kind of situations, when the crew stops and loses their time to help another competitor, never happen. If in future something similar happens to Martin, his crew can count on our help. During that first stage a lot was going on. Driving on a rope on the desert dunes was very difficult. But finally we reached the finish with not a big gap. We’re still in the game”, says Kuba Przygoński of Orlen Team.
Sunday’s rivalry was very even. 1st place was scored by Cyril Despres (MINI John Cooper Works Buggy), Bernhard Ten Brinke (Toyota Hilux Overdrive) and Stephane Peterhansel (MINI John Cooper Works Rally) were placed after him. Kuba Przygoński and Timo Gottschalk have Monday’s second stage of Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, 228.8 km long, ahead of them.
