Incredible and spectacular as they are, Motorsports and specially cross-country rallies have been, since the first time anyone tried to anything with an engine a source of accidents, mishaps and all sort of unexpected problems.
Drivers and riders are aware that from the 1st meter to the last one of any race they will be under the constant danger of something wrong could happen to them, no matter what kind of vehicle they are using.
Fortunaly, the security improvements reduced the risk a lot and still keep reducing with new systems being introduced, strict rules and incremental build quality of the vehicles year after year.
This section will publish some of those accidents and other unexpected events in racing. Some times they are simply funny, other times spectacular and a few times even scary. In all of them the humans left the carnage with no major problems. The vehicles, well unfortunately for some this was the end.
In this section we cast our very special and particular look on these situations and present you with an unexpected answer to what the videos show.

Imagine yourself, enjoying your race with your co-driver, having fun, raising dust from the road when suddenly "Lady Bad Luck" elegantly or less elegantly takes a seat in your vehicle. When this happens, you should know your *!#$!ed, and the better you should do is to find the best place to crash (take a look at our previous posts), tighten your belts and enjoy the ride... because things are about to get interesting.

Today we show you a recent example of such an event. Unfortunately, this team only found out that "Lady Bad Luck" was travelling with them too late, when they saw the road on the opposite position to where it should be.

For those who don't understand Portuguese, the few words you can hear in this video is "Get out of the car" and we do suspect that they are talking with that unpleasant lady, to whom they also directed some nice words like "s#$%t" and "#$SS&$#".

Let's them see what happened...

It is not common to find drivers that can pull out a spectacular action sequence and escape without any kind of damage whatsoever, except of course of the pants of his co-driver and maybe even his own.

Nevertheless, even rare, they do exist and today we want to show you a very fine example of an action scene produced by one of these "Ninja Drivers".  Just take a closer look at the how calm and relaxed this driver handled this amazing event, where he even add the time to do some gardening.

Crashing in perfection is a fine art that takes years to perfect. We already spoke several times about it in this crazy series, and one detail that we noticed is that many of the experts of this art don't need speed, and when they find a good spot they will rarely miss a chance to exhibit all their grace and style crashing.

Today we show you the work of a master of this art, who pulled a spectacular accident at a very slow speed without damaging too much his truck or injuring anyone inside.  Maybe the biggest problem was to return all the pieces and bits he carried in the back of his truck to their right places since this was an assistance truck. But no one knows if they are fans of Lego and this was just an idea to enjoy some quality time finding the right spot for each nut and bolt they spread in and around the truck.

Many people don't agree with the “size does matter” theory.  Also, many are against it, especially those in the smaller categories. Others say that it’s not really the size that is important, but the skill you have to manage your vehicle is the most important detail.   Some more recent approaches to the topic are less conservative, and don't even care about the vehicle but more with other tools, some even electric. Then there are the radicals, who don't even want to hear about it, they don't care if the people in charge is good or not, they are simply against it. A small group of fans say that in fact these are too big and that they damage the track too much compared to the fun they give.

Despite all these theories and personal feelings, no one denies that a big one will always have the "WOW" factor, especially for those who have never seen such a big vehicle crashing.

Trucks are the biggest vehicles in rally-raid and by far the most impressive. To see one crashing, especially at speed, will always impress anyone seeing it. Today we show you the crash of the truck of Hans Becx back at Dakar 2011.   No one got hurt and the team continued their way.

Racing is in constant mutation and evolution.  Today's cars are very different from the ones raced just some years ago. A big part of this evolution will be the change for another type of power source, leaving behind the fossil fuels.

In the recent years one team raced a full electric car at the Dakar rally, but the trend is not new and started long ago.  Back in 2011 one team was already trying hard to race an electric car. Still, power consumption was and still is a big problem and batteries should be recharged by long time. Today it is not near perfect, and in that time was even worste. The need to recharge was the cause of insucess of their project, because their way to get power in the car mean they could not reach the end of any race simply because the recharge procedures mean not only the destruction of the car but also from the power grid.

We will show you today a sucessfully recharge of batteries... and the consequente car and power grid destruction.

In this "electrifing" operation no one got hurt.
