As the sun set over the Ligurian coast, the convoy boarded the ferry bound for Tunis. For many, this crossing symbolized the true beginning of the adventure — the calm before the storm of dust, navigation, and endurance that awaits in the Tunisian desert.
After months of preparation, the vehicles are now ready to face the challenges of Africa.
Arrival in Tunisia: Monastir Welcomes the Competitors Before the Desert Challenge
This morning, October 30, the Fenix Rally caravan arrived at the port of Tunis after a smooth overnight crossing of the Mediterranean. The scent of North Africa, the unique light, and the vivid colors immediately announced that the adventure had entered a new chapter.
From Tunis, participants drove south toward Monastir, covering a 170 km transfer along the coast before reaching the day’s destination. In Monastir, the atmosphere was both relaxed and charged with anticipation — a rare blend of excitement and focus.
Crews completed the final administrative formalities and attended the drivers’ briefing, where the organization presented the details of the first stage. The bivouac, set near the sea, came alive with the rhythmic sounds of preparation: engines revving, GPS units being calibrated, and drivers studying maps under the soft glow of headlamps.
Tomorrow, the rally truly begins. The first stage will take competitors from Monastir into the heart of Tunisia, toward Douz — the legendary “Gateway to the Sahara.”
