MDC 2025: Erik van Loon and Wouter Rosegaar stay sharp in 'flat' fourth stage
The fourth stage of the Morocco Desert Challenge was the longest of the rally at 526 kilometres, but according to Erik van Loon it was also the least exciting. Together with navigator Wouter Rosegaar, he drove a consistent and flawless stage, good for fourth place in the SSV class.
"This was the most boring stage ever," said Erik afterwards. "We actually drove 526 kilometres at full throttle. All the T1+ cars passed us, so we had some dust here and there. At the end we noticed that a wheel was a bit crooked, so we eased off the gas a bit."
Despite that problem, Erik and Wouter managed to keep the pace high. They finished just two minutes behind Mitchel van den Brink and remain in the lead. Due to a four-minute time penalty for overspeeding, they did lose some time, they are eighth in the general classification.
Tomorrow there is a varied 375 kilometer test on the program between Smara and Assa. It promises to be a challenging course with dunes, fesh fesh, gravel, sharp stones and the infamous Piste Africaine.
