As a service to the sport we all love and follow, Rally-Raid Network posts numerous media releases from a wide variety of sources on our website. Due to the large number, and some times short time available, it is nearly impossible to review each public release. These articles are written by reporters or press officers who work for various organizers, teams, drivers, riders, and other parties, and they do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Rally-Raid Network.
Morocco Desert Challenge: SSV madness with 105 crews at the start
“Although more and more top riders find their way to the MDC, the traditional, easy-going spirit is maintained,” says Gert Duson. “Morocco Desert Challenge is and will remain an amateur rally. This can be seen, for example, in the large number of SSVs registered. In this low-threshold category with a large fun factor, we see the number of participants almost double. No less than 105 side-by-sides started this year, an absolute record.
Two things stand out in this category: half of the pilots go for convenience and join a professional assistance team. For example, the Dutch QFF provides service for no fewer than 16 SSVs. The Swiss ZZ Kustom sends 6 and the Belgian Art of Speed 7. French pilots join team BBR (10) and Pinch Racing (8), the team of Philipe Pinchedez, who won the previous edition of the MDC.
From this year onwards it is also possible to participate in the raid category with a Side-by-side (without chrono). The most famous participant here is two-time Dakar winner Gerard De Rooy, who will drive a Can-Am Maverick 4-seater with his two children. Fun, adventure & quality time guaranteed!
