Gold City 450 2024: Gold City sets the scene for Championship fight

Entries for the Markwell Group Gold City 450 have come through, with this year’s title contenders leading the way ahead of the fourth round of 2024 BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship (AORC).

Taking place in the Queensland regional town of Charter Towers, 31 starters are set to tackle over 300 challenging kilometres across two days of competition.

Current AORC title leader Beau Robinson and Shane Hutt will be eager for a solid result, as they chase down their first championship crown.

Punching above his weight in the Pro Lite class in 2024, Mel Brandle will also make his way to Queensland as he stares down a 312 point defecit from Robinson. Encouragingly, Brandle has form at the Queensland venue having finished runner-up in the 2023 Gold City 450.

The Transportable Shade Sheds SXS Championship class has the greatest number of crews with 11 drivers.

Queenslander James Mogford currently leads the SXS Championship with 1368 points, ahead of fellow Queenslander Glenn Brinkman by 132 points.

Rounding out the field, Production 4WD driver Norman Parker is set to defend his class lead against Geoff Pickering, and Michael Shipton being the sole entrant in the Performance 2WD class is ready to take home the win unchallenged.

Spectator information for the event can be found here.

The 2024 Markwell Group Gold City 450 will serve as the fourth round of the AORC season taking place in Charters Towers, Queensland on 30 August – 2 September.
