Yamaha rider completes another demanding stage

António Maio completed the 10th and antepenultimate stage of the 2024 Dakar Rally, a complex day mostly on sandy tracks, but punctuated with dangerous stone trails. The special proved to be particularly difficult due to the navigation, which forced the riders to roll with the utmost concentration so as not to make any mistakes.

The Yamaha rider was 24th today, having finished the 371km stage around Alula in 4h09m111s. António Maio remains firmly in the top 20 of the competition, in 18th place in the overall standings at a time when there are only two more stages to go before the end of the 46th edition of the Dakar Rally.

"Another stage is done. This was a fast day, with sandy tracks alternating with stone tracks and some dust. At the start of the special I caught up with some riders, who I ended up passing, but then I did most of the sector on my own, which ended up being a bit more overwhelming. The navigation was very demanding. I had to be careful not to get it wrong. The objective was achieved because I managed to get to the end without any mishaps. I finished the day without any falls or navigational errors. Tomorrow's stage will be tough, in fact there's already talk that it will be the toughest special stage of this Dakar. That's why it was important to do well today so that we're prepared for tomorrow," said António Maio at the end of the stage, which again ended in Alula.

Tomorrow will see the 11th and penultimate stage of the 2024 Dakar Rally. The journey will take place between Alula and Yanbu and will cover a total of 587km, 480km of which will be timed. This stage could shake up the podium in the various categories. Stretching for almost 500 kilometers, most of the stage will be on arid and rugged terrain and will be the final physical challenge for the riders.
