Dakar 2024: António Maio with the lead group in the 48-hour marathon stage
Yamaha rider camps tonight with 11 other elite riders from the race
António Maio has already finished the first phase of the innovative 48-hour stage held for the first time in the 2024 Dakar Rally. This is a journey very similar to marathon stages in which riders only rely on their knowledge to maintain the bike. At 16:00 (13:00 time in Portugal) all competitors in the race had to conclude today and are now spending the night in the desert in one of the seven improvised camps for this purpose, having access only to a tent and military rations delivered by the organization.
The Yamaha rider, who was the second to take to the track this morning, concluded this very tough day with a very consistent pace and reached camp F, where only 12 riders reached, the fastest in the race, having covered 513km in the sector selective consisting of 626km where he spent 7h32m03s.
Tomorrow, at 7 am, the sixth stage continues and António Maio only needs to complete 113 km of the remaining route, followed by a well-deserved rest day that will take place in Riyadh.
