Dakar 2024: Bruno Santos retains podium position in the Rookies
Torres Vedras rider moves up one position in the Rally 2 Ranking to 18th place
Rookie Bruno Santos continues to perform superbly in the Dakar Rally. In today's 873-kilometer stage from Riyadh to Al Duwadimi, the longest of the 2024 edition, the Torres Vedras driver maintained third place in the classification for rookies and climbed another position in the Rally 2 Ranking, the competition for drivers not competing in Rally GP, the Elite Class of the competition. He occupies a position in the Top 20 with a remarkable 18th place.
At the controls of a Husqvarna, the rider supported by Momento TT and in the Dakar as part of the XRaids Experience structure, spent 6h34m29s today to cover the 483 timed kilometers, which brings the time he has already spent in competition to almost forty hours, plus a lot of time spent on the connections.
"It was a very long stage, the longest of this rally. There were almost 500 kilometers on the clock, as well as long stages. It was an aggressive day, costly, the body was already struggling towards the end, but it went well. It was a stage with a lot of navigation, a lot of crawling. Towards the end we came to a part of the route that we had already done on stage 3 with a lot of rock, dangerous, but fortunately everything went smoothly and I feel we're on the right track," said Bruno Santos on arrival at the Al Duwadimi bivouac.
The next stage links Al Duwadimi to Saudar and will have a selective sector of 458 kilometers. It will be a day of strong contrasts and a little easier than the previous stages. The special starts from the center towards the north of the country on another sandy trek, but without too much difficulty. The marked change of scenery will remind competitors of the need to remain on their toes, as the sand will give way to rocks, creating very rough terrain.
