Dakar 2024: Bruno Santos was the best among the “Rookies” in the 8th stage
Portuguese rider, increasingly confident, climbs positions in the Dakar Rally
Bruno Santos continues to have an excellent performance in what is his debut in the Dakar Rally, having finished the eighth stage of the race, completed between Al Duwadimi and Hail and which consisted of a total of 678km, in first place among the “Rookies”, which allows him to move up to second place in the general classification for first-time drivers in the race.
The driver from Torres Vedras set a very consistent and effective pace, completing the demanding 458km selective sector in 10th among the Rally 2 drivers, now occupying a notable 17th place in this Ranking. At the controls of a Husqvarna, the pilot supported by Momento TT and included in the XRaids Experience structure, needed 4h00m10s to complete the special where he was ranked 23rd, a result that allows him to enter the Top 30 of the absolute classification, now appearing in 30th position.
“The eighth stage is completed. It was a long day and we left very early to compete in today's special. It was a fun day where I managed to set a good pace without making any navigation errors. I managed to progress well in the stage and I'm satisfied with today's performance. I rode safely and I feel that I am becoming more confident every day, both with my progress and with the navigation which is more controlled and calm. We are in Hail, in a new camp, and now we will prepare for tomorrow's stage, which will be another long and demanding journey”, said Bruno Santos upon arrival at the bivouac installed in Hail.
The ninth stage of the Rai Dakar 2024 takes place tomorrow. This involves a total of 639km completed between Hail and Al Ula, of which 417km will be run against the clock. On this day, riders will have little time to enjoy the magnificent landscapes of this stage that will take them to the limit. The trails will alternate between fast and slow as the special progresses. The confidence and skill of the competitors will be very important to find the right rhythm on the rocky plateaus.
