Dakar 2024: For Brazilians at Prodrive, Dakar comes down to "one day at a time"
Cristian Baumgart and Beco Andreotti finished the stage overcoming two tire punctures, while Marcos Baumgart and Kleber Cincea focus on the third day after the leak
The Baumgart brothers faced a difficult day in the second stage of the Dakar, held this Sunday (7) between Al Henakiyah and Al Duwadimi, in Saudi Arabia. There were 463 kilometers of timed sections in which, in cars, 12-time champion Stepháne Peterhansel, from Audi, won.
Cristian Baumgart and Beco Andreotti closed the stage with the 36th fastest time of the day after overcoming two tire punctures and having to hold the pace a lot in an area of rocks after the two changes. “We were very focused. We maintained a great pace at the beginning, but we had to stop shortly after kilometer 120 to change a flat tire. We kept going, pushing, and then we got a flat second tire,” he said.
“We made the change, but as there was still a lot of racing ahead and we were already using both spare tires, we preferred to play more cool. The pace was dropping because we were riding in the dust of other competitors a lot and if another tire went flat it would be the end of the day for us. We still have ten more days to go,” he explained.
For Marcos Baumgart and Kleber Cincea, the second stage of the Dakar was even more difficult. The pair had to stop at kilometer 210 with a leak in the gearbox. The Brazilians from Prodrive Hunter #242 were towed to the base camp in Al Duwadimi. “Technicians will assess what happened, what should be done and carry out maintenance. The intention is to continue in the race and start tomorrow”, highlighted navigator Kleber Cincea.
The third of the 12 stages of the Dakar, this Monday (8), goes from Al Duwadimi to Al Salamiya, in a day of 733 kilometers, 438 of which are timed.
The X Rally Team is sponsored by Vedacit, Motul, BF Goodrich, Rodobens, Center Norte, Rock and Opaoma.
