The first part of the Dakar Rally 48 Hour Chrono Marathon Stage has been completed, with the competitors spending the night camping at one of the seven remote bivouacs located along the route with a 4pm cutoff. Nani Roma and Alex Haro (#210) made it to point D, which is 424km of racing in 6 hours and 8 minutes.

With their 2 hour later start time after the leaders, Gareth Woolridge -Athlete and Boyd Dreyer (#225) made it to point B, which is 294km, in 5 hours 39 minutes, and appear to have got stuck a few times in the soft dune sand. Proving just how difficult the conditions are, race leader Yazeed Al Rajhi (Toyota Overdrive) barrel rolled his car 51km into today's stage and is out of the 2024 Dakar.

The total stage distance is 547km long, so Nani and Alex will have 120km in the morning, and Gareth and Boyd have 250km to go. Everyone starts at the same time from all the different stop points at 6.20am. Once all crews finish tomorrow the vehicles are transported to Riyadh, and the competitors board one of four flights to Saudi's capital for the rest day. More news tomorrow when they arrive ...
