Guerlain Chicherit and Alex Winocq finished 4th in the Dakar 2024 after a spectacular comeback that included two stage wins. It's the French driver's best ever finish on the world's toughest rally-raid. This result augurs well for the new team he has formed with Guillaume de Mévius, who finished 2nd.

On Friday, January 5th, Guerlain Chicherit lined up at the start of his 13th Dakar with the ambition of fighting for overall victory in the car category. A realistic goal, but unfortunately thwarted in stage 3 by a loose water hose, and definitively dashed the following day by a power steering failure. From then on, the only option was to put on a show and try to win prestigious stages against the best drivers in the discipline, such as Sébastien Loeb, Nasser Al-Attiyah, Stéphane Peterhansel, Carlos Sainz. etc

The team won two stages in a row (10th and 11th), the second while it opened the route between Al'Ula and Yanbu, on some of the most difficult terrain in Saudi Arabia. The duo entered the top-10 on Friday and were 8th on Sunday, 6th on Monday, 5th on Wednesday and 4th on Thursday. In the end, not much was needed for this crazy comeback to end on the podium, with just 10 minutes separating the Toyota Hilux of Chicherit-Winocq from the BRX Hunter of Loeb-Lurquin. Ranked 5th in 2010, Guerlain Chicherit achieved his best overall performance in the world's toughest rally-raid. Furthermore, he currently holds the 2nd place in the 2024 World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC), which awards points for each stage.

Guillaume de Mévius, Guerlain Chicherit's new rally-raid partner, finished 2nd Their team, formed just before the start of the Dakar, made an impressive debut with three stage wins, a 2nd place and a 4th place overall. To be continued...

Guerlain Chicherit, Toyota Hilux #211 driver, said, "The time lost in Stages 3 and 4 is what separates us from the winners today. It's frustrating, but I prefer to focus on the positive, which is our fantastic recovery in the overall standings. Alex (Winocq) did an incredible job on the navigation, especially in the challenging Stage 11 when we opened the route and won, which is rare in our sport. I also want to congratulate Guillaume (de Mévius) and Xavier (Panseri) for their outstanding 2nd place. Our performances have really put our new team in the spotlight, and they'll be making an interesting announcement shortly."
