Dakar 2024: Rookie Bruno Santos takes podium at Dakar 2024
Torres Vedras driver with a remarkable performance in the "Olympic Games" of motorsport
Bruno Santos stood on the podium today in the 46th edition of the Dakar Rally, finishing the competition in second place in the Rookie Ranking, the classification for rookie drivers in what is considered the "Olympic Games" of motorsport. The driver from Torres Vedras performed excellently throughout the race, earning him a place in the Top 20 of the Rally 2 Ranking and the absolute Top 30.
The Dakar 2024 Rally ended today in Yanbu with the 12th stage, another extremely demanding day for drivers and machines, but Bruno Santos remained as always very focused and managed to overcome all the obstacles and adversities with perseverance, showing all his qualities as a top national and now international driver. Supported by Momento TT, the rider always showed a very consistent pace throughout the 15 days in which more than 4,500 timed kilometers were contested and which he completed in a total of 59h08m38s. Today's 144km selective sector around Yanbu went smoothly and the XRaids Experience rider finished the race in 16th place in the Rally2 Ranking and in 28th place in the absolute motorcycle standings.
"My first Dakar is over. I was the second best Rookie and I'm very happy with this result. It was a great race. A tough Dakar where every day was a great challenge. We've been through a lot and psychologically it's been a very challenging competition. But it's great to be here at the end and to be on the podium. Today's stage was short, fast and easy and once again I rode without any problems. I felt a lot of support from Portugal and I'm really happy with this result. I'd like to thank all my sponsors who made it possible for me to fulfill this dream. To my family and friends I leave a huge hug for all their support. Thank you and a big thank you to everyone," said Bruno Santos at the end of the 46th edition of the Dakar Rally.
With the prize-giving ceremony for the 46th edition of the Dakar Rally over, Bruno Santos is preparing to return to Portugal, arriving in Lisbon on Saturday, January 20, at 7pm.
