Dakar 2024: Team De Rooy loses some minutes in the dunes
𝗘𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲 𝟱 – 𝗔𝗹-𝗛𝗼𝗳𝘂𝗳 > 𝗦𝗵𝘂𝗯𝗮𝘆𝘁𝗮𝗵
After a connection of over 500 kilometers on a long boring road, a stage of 119 kilometers of dunes was scheduled. The start went fine; Janus did see Mitchel in his mirrors, but he was further away than the time difference they had started with. Loprais was already further back at that point. Unfortunately, at one point the engine stalled, causing the gearbox to go haywire. That happened just as they were driving over a dune and ended up in a pan, so they couldn’t get out of it.
That meant he had to wait for back up from Michiel, because on their own they couldn’t get the truck back underway. The towing ended up costing 10 minutes, and because of this incident Janus lost 25 minutes. The rest of the stage went fine; he did lose some time on Mitchel and Macik, but he still is over 20 minutes ahead of them. Loprais was having technical problems, so Janus is quite satisfied with today anyway. Despite being stuck, he did good business for the overall rankings.
