An excellent recovery halted by mechanical problems

After a much-needed rest day to regain strength from the wear and tear caused by stages full of problems, and just when it looked like Bruno Santos would make a recovery to the level of sporting performance within his grasp, new problems overshadowed the stage from Hail to Al Duwadimi. The rider wearing the colors of Frutas Patrícia Pilar had to tackle more than 800 kilometers, of which 604 were timed. The mechanical problem that affected the participation of the Momento TT rider forced him to lose more than two hours, but Bruno Santos managed to cope and get the Husqvarna to the bivouac.

“It seems that this year I've really come to experience the true spirit of the Dakar. I'm going from here with everything. Another day riding through the dunes at night. An incredible experience. I had a spectacular day. I rode very well up to km 500 and when I was 100 km from the end of the special I started to have some problems. I lost power to the point where I couldn't go any further and had to stop. I lost more than two hours, but I managed to solve it and get back to the bivouac. I'm not used to having mechanical problems. I've had very few problems of this kind in my entire career, but this is a real challenge and I'm determined to prove that I won't give up. I'm going to see this through to the end,” said Bruno Santos on arrival in Al Duwadimi.

The next stage will be in Boucle, starting and finishing in Al Duwadimi. It will have a different route for motorcycles and cars, with 411 km for the bikes and 418 km for the cars. This stage will have all the ingredients: difficult navigation, a mixture of fast and slow terrain and, as icing on the cake, a mountain race.
