Dakar 2025: Joan Font stops in the dunes to try to help Dania Akeel
- The BBR Motorsport rider stopped 100 kilometers from the finish to help his teammate, who had a broken Taurus wishbone and a blown wheel.
- After midnight (Spanish time), Font and his co-driver Sergi Brugué had not yet reached the finish of the sixth stage of the Dakar Rally.
Joan Font is trying to reach the end of the sixth stage of the Dakar Rally after having to stop for several hours to help Saudi rider Dania Akeel, also a member of Team BBR, with mechanical problems at the end of the special stage. At the time of going to press, Font and his co-driver Sergi Brugué had still not reached the finish line in Al Duwadimi (Saudi Arabia).
The driver from Vic rejoined the race this Saturday, 48 hours after he had to sacrifice himself in the fifth stage in favor of his teammates and, consequently, was left out of the official competition. That day he gave up all his tires and some parts of his vehicle and was unable to start. This Saturday he was able to start and completed almost 500 of the 605 kilometers of the timed special, until he had to stop in a stretch of dunes to assist the Taurus of Dania Akeel, who had broken a trapezoid of his Taurus and pulled out a wheel.
The Catalan driver interrupted his progress on the special at 20:15 Saudi time (19:15 Spanish time), when Akeel had already been waiting for about 2 hours and a half to receive some kind of help.
It should be remembered that Joan Font and Sergi Brugué, after not being able to start the fifth stage of the Dakar, are competing in the Dakar Experience mode, although this does not prevent them from continuing to perform the functions of fast assistance car for the Red Bull Off-Road Junior Team and Team BBR.
