Toby Price today unveiled his 2025 Dakar Rally challenger, showing off the Black Rock Motor Resort backed Overdrive Toyota Hilux that he will tackle the T1+ Class in alongside his Navigator Sam Sunderland.
Today marked the first test for Price & Sunderland, who logged valuable seat time in their Hilux ahead of the Dakar Rally beginning in the New Year.
As well as carrying major backing from Black Rock Motor Resort, the duo are also supported heading into Dakar by Overdrive Racing, Peter Kittle Motor Company, BFGoodrich Tires, ARB 4x4 Accessories, Scipio, McMillin Racing, Vietnam Motorbike Tours, Motul, Fist Work Wear, Albek and Alpinestars.
After the Australian two-time Dakar Rally Champion announced his switch from two wheels to four alongside fellow two-time Dakar Winner Sunderland earlier this year, today at testing focussed on making both Driver & Navigator comfortable in the car.
“Today has been a little surreal, to be honest. This has been such a long time in the making, and to finally see it all come together is truly amazing. It’s really exciting to reveal the car to the world and showcase the incredible partners supporting us. Day one testing Overdrive’s Toyota Hilux has been fantastic and we’ve learned so much already. For me, it’s been about understanding the car, and for Sam, it’s been about getting a feel for the navigation side and what this journey will truly be like. A huge thank you to all the partners on board, it genuinely means the world to me and I hope we can make everyone proud.” Price said.
Sunderland began his practice as a Navigator prior to the test with Price, jumping in with Hannes Kinigadner at the Baja Dubai earlier this week.
“The day has finally arrived, Toby and I are in a car together! It’s incredibly exciting to see everything come to life after months of back-and-forth emails and WhatsApp messages to piece it all together. Seeing it in real life is such a special moment and I’m so grateful to everyone who helped get us to the start line of the Dakar Rally. We’re determined to reward the confidence and belief they’ve placed in us. We’re coming into our first Dakar without a real gauge of where we stand, but after spending a day alongside Toby, it only makes the journey ahead even more exciting!” Sunderland said.
Belgium-based Overdrive Racing emerged on the rally circuit in 2006, and is well-known for its partnership with Toyota, fielding a fleet of Toyota Hilux vehicles for their drivers. Having won the Dakar Rally on multiple occasions, the team is well-equipped with the knowledge and technical expertise to provide their drivers with the best.
Black Rock Motor Resort is transforming a 252-hectare site in Wakefield, New South Wales, Australia into a full-fledged motorsport playground for car enthusiasts from all over the world. With the crown jewel being a 5.25-kilometre driving circuit designed by the renowned Tilke Group, the resort will also feature a specialised go-kart track, luxury accommodation options, a driver training centre, and much more, making it a true one-stop-shop for all motorsport fanatics.
