Rider from Torres Vedras sits 17th overall

After delivering an excellent performance yesterday in the first part of the marathon stage, Bruno Santos, entered by Frutas Patrícia Pilar, moved up again today in both classifications in which he is competing. After Stage 5, he is 7th in Rally 2 and 17th in the overall standings. In the second part of the marathon stage, competitors faced a 356-kilometre timed special today, on a stage that finished in Ha’il.

We spent the night in a bivouac set up in the desert where only the motorcycle riders were staying. These two days have been very positive for me. I rode at a good pace without making mistakes, without damaging the bike, and by saving the tyres for these two days, which was very important. The strategy worked. I gained many places in the standings and I’m very happy about that, and about coming within the objective I set myself. I still hope to move up further in the overall classification, but there are many riders and they are very strong. The competition is tough, so I’m satisfied that by the fifth day I’m already in such a good position. I’m ready for tomorrow, which will be long — we’re looking at close to 900 kilometres before the rest day in Riyadh.”

Tomorrow’s stage, the sixth and the longest of this 48th edition of the Dakar Rally, with 331 km against the clock and 589 km of liaison, will be contested between Ha’il and Riyadh. The route runs mostly through the Qassim region, with dunes sometimes separated by valleys. A timed special carried out entirely on sand.
