Dakar 2026 - Stage 8: Gonçalo Guerreiro out of the race
The young Portuguese driver Gonçalo Guerreiro, saw his Dakar adventure come to an end today, during stage 8 after an accident.
"Today, during Dakar Special Stage 8, I was involved in a racing accident with another car in the dunes, which resulted in three broken bones in my left hand. I was flowing really well through the dunes and at a good pace, but unfortunately we ended up on a collision course outside of my field of vision, and by the time I saw him it was already too late. The impact wasn’t so violent and the car is in perfect condition, but I felt immediately an intense pain on my arm! Today I’m heading to Portugal to undergo surgery on my left arm.
I’m extremely disappointed and still can’t believe that I’m out of the race. I apologize to everyone responsible for this project and to those who believed in me."
