Luís Portela Morais climbs 6 positions and enters the Top 10
The 48-hour stage proved very tough for the Dakar 2025 caravan
Luís Portela Morais, navigated by David Megre at the controls of the G-ECKO prototype, managed to overcome all the difficulties of the demanding 48-hour stage with a performance that allowed him to significantly improve his position in the Challenger Ranking of this 47th edition of the Dakar Rally. The journey around Bisha was very tough, mainly because it took in large expanses of dunes and many sandy tracks, terrain that proved extremely difficult for the machines and drivers. However, the bp Ultimate Adventure Team duo showed enormous resilience as well as a very steady pace that allowed them to finish the special in 7th Challenger position, rising to 8th place in the overall category standings.
“We finished the 48-hour stage. It was the first major obstacle we had to overcome in this Dakar. It was a very tough two days where we had some navigation problems. The lack of training and racing is taking its toll on us. But what matters is that we're at the end. Our main intention is to bring the car to the end every day. We don't have any major problems with the car and we're already preparing for tomorrow's stage. We're going to do our best and try to achieve a good result,” said Luís Portela Morais at the bivouac in Bisha, after completing the 967km time trial that made up this second round in 12h39m25s.
Tomorrow will be the third stage of the Dakar 2025. The stage will cover 327 timed kilometers and will run from Bisha to Al Henakiyah. The stage was originally going to be 496km long, but due to the bad weather that has been hitting the region, the organization decided to shorten the section. After a long period in Bisha, the caravan is now on its way to the north of Saudi Arabia.
