Crash forces Bruno Santos out of Baja Sharish while leading
Torres Vedras rider stays top of the Portuguese Championship
Bruno Santos was forced to retire from the Baja TT Sharish Gin this weekend while leading the race. The Torres Vedras rider was out in front at the start of the final stage of this fourth round of the Portuguese Cross-Country Championship when a crash ended his race. However, the wins he took in the three previous rounds allow him to keep the championship lead.
"The race was going well, in line with my usual approach and with what racing in a fast but controlled environment is like. The first day went well. I started third for the next day's special, which was a good position. Saturday went well, I was in first. I didn't have a very big lead, but it was relatively safe, it had come without any risks, and the strategy for Sunday was to try to manage the advantage I had as best I could. But at the start, with the track heavily churned up and the sun straight in my eyes on the special, I was fooled by a corner and misjudged what was ahead of me. I crashed on the way into the corner and tried to get up quickly, but I injured my shoulder and realised right away that I wasn't able to continue," said the rider, who is backed by Momento TT and who debuted the new 2027 Husqvarna FE 450 at the Alentejo race.
The championship continues from 15 to 17 October with the legendary Baja Portalegre 500.
