Baja Poland 2023: First win for the MINI JCW Rally Plus

Krzysztof Holowczyc wins home race
Michal Maluszinski finishes second

It was a commanding performance by Krzysztof Holowczyc and Lukasz Kurzeja in the MINI JCW Rally Plus. The two Poles won every special stage and thus clearly decided the Baja Poland. This was also the first victory for the MINI JCW Rally Plus. Second place went to Michal Maluszinski and Julita Maluszinska, who also drive a MINI JCW Rally Plus.

The MINI JCW Rally Plus was unbeatable at the Baja Poland. Holowczyc set the fastest time on every special stage. His compatriot Maluskinski secured second place on almost every stage - only after the last lap did he have to settle for fourth. But that did not endanger his second place overall.

Krzysztof Holowczyc: "We won the Baja Poland. For the ninth time now. This rally is always difficult. Nevertheless, we managed to win all the stages! But the most important thing is that we were able to work a lot on the settings of the car here. We were able to change a few things to make the car more competitive. All this gives us a lot of knowledge and experience for the Dakar - that's our main goal."

The next round in the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country-Bajas is the Baja Portalegre from 26 - 28 October 2023.

This weekend, the X-raid will be active on two continents. The Desafío Ruta 40, the fourth round of the World Rally Raid Championship, starts today in the first special stage. At the start are Sebastian Halpern and Bernardo "Ronnie" Graue in the MINI JCW Rally Plus. Joao Ferreira and Manuel Porém pilot the X-raid 1000R Turbo Side-by-Side.

Baja Poland 2023: Krzysztof Hołowczyc leads the race after the second day

Krzysztof Hołowczyc and Lukasz Kurzeja are not slowing down in the new MINI John Cooper Works Rally. The eight-time winner of the most important and most prestigious field rally in Poland achieved the best result in the third special episode of Columna Medica Baja Poland 2023 and increased his leadership in the World Cup classification.

The Saturday stage of Columna Medica Baja Poland consisted of two passes of a special section on the Draw Polygon. The 160-kilometer stage was, as usual, a challenge for the participants, who consistently emphasized its differential characteristics and how easy it is to make a navigation error here, which can override the chances of a good result. Although the competition was held in sunny, rain-free weather, the route did not lack mud traps, deep pits, and treacherously slippery parties.

After three special runs, Hołowczyc and Kurzeja also lead in the classification of the Round Rally Championships of Poland, FIA CEZ and the Championships of the Czech Republic, played as part of this year's edition of Columna Medica Baja Poland. Second place after the second day of competition was occupied by  Michał and Julita Małuszyńscy (MINI John Cooper Works Rally). This crew loses to the leading Hołowczyc and Kurzei by 8 minutes and 41 seconds. Małuszyńs very quickly found a great pace in their new car and they are probably aiming for a very good result in the competition. Mshari Althefiri and Oriol Vidal Montijano advanced to third place in the World Cup classification (Can-Am Maverick X3). This crew also leads the T3 group. Cristiano de Sousa Batista and Fausto Miguel de Almeida da Mota keep a great pace (BRP Can-Am Maverick XRS Turbo RR). The third crew of yesterday's prologue leads the competition in the T4 group and occupies sixth place in the classification of the general round of the World Cup.

Włodzimierz Grajek and Dominik Jazic after the first match at Draw Polygon were placed in third place in the classification of the FIA World Cup in the Baja Field Rally. After the second ride of the 160-kilometer axle, however, they fell to position number four.

In the T4 group, in the classification of the Polish championship, Artur Kordek leads, driven by Dominik Ragiel (Can-Am Maverick X3). In T2 headed by Piotr Borys and Michał Goleniewski (Mitsubishi Pajero). Piotr Boguta and Inez Kieliba (BMW X6) are the fastest crew in the TH group. The classification in the championships of the Czech Republic is identical.

In the Classic category, Michał Horodeński is in the lead, driven by Arkadiusz Salatinski in a Toyota Land Cruiser HDJ80.

Among the truck crews (T5) the fastest are Michal Valtr, Radim Kaplanek and Jaroslav Miskolci in the Iveco Powerstar Torpedo. The Czech-Slovak tercet also leads in group T5 in the FIA CEZ.

As part of the Polish Championship,  motorcycle and quad riders also compete in Baja Poland. Among quads,  Adam Krysiak leads (Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 S), while in the motos, the fastest is Marian Augustyn (KTM EXC-F 450), and Lukasz Pacud (Yamaha Raptor 700) is the best driver in the Q2 group, designed for quad one-axle drives.

In the Polish Cup in the Baja Rally, the highest-ranked quad in the Q4 group is Piotr Michalak (Polaris Scrambler 1000S). In the competition of motorcyclists, so far, Grzegorz Kolodziej is the best (KTM EXC 450).

The participants of the Polish Rally Cup of Field Cars also fight for points on the streets of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The S2 group is led by Michał Lipski driven by Roman Kiciński (Dacia Duster), while Emil Bożek and Aleksandra Żurek (Can-Am Maverick X3) are the fastest in the SSV group.

Among the non-licensed players in the SSV group, the highest place is occupied by Adam Goński and Wojciech Waleczak (Can-Am Maverick X3 XRS). In the Open category Bartosz Weyna with Piotrem Pazdykou (Suzuki Vitara), and in the Limited Jarosław and Lukasz Rostkowscy (Mitsubishi Pajero). In the Classic category, Tomasz Klocyk and Tomasz Jakubowski (Lada Niva) lead.

On Sunday, the competitors will have a double passage by the Gmina Dobra-Szczecin stage.  The prize giving will take place at 14:00, at the Wałach Chrobrego in Szczecin.

Rally Cierzo 2023: The fifth edition of Cierzo Ejercito de Tierra Rally is ready to start

The Campeonato de España de Rallyes Todo Terreno Loterías returns to Aragon to celebrate the fifth race of the championship, the second consecutive race in Aragonese lands after the last Baja Aragón held in Teruel.

On September 1 and 2, the Cierzo Ejercito de Tierra Rally returns to celebrate its fifth edition between the localities of Zuera, San Mateo de Gállego, Ontinar de Salz and the Campo de Maniobras de San Gregorio.

The championship reaches its equator with the Portuguese José Henrique Dinis leading the classification, followed by scarcely two points by the Spanish Santiago Carnicer, who won in the Lower Aragon, leaving the championships very tight.

Thus, on Thursday 31 will be arriving the first participants to the Zuera International Circuit, where will be established the assistance park of the test together with the race office, to begin with the first administrative checks.

On Friday morning, participants who so wish will have the possibility to perform a test shakedown in the vicinity of the circuit itself while the rest of the participants are done with the relevant checks.

Friday afternoon, we'll have the first of the four specials. A prelude stage of about 18 km with departure at Ontinar de Salz and arrival at San Mateo de Gállego, which will determine the order of departure on Saturday.

After the prologue stage, the vehicles will head to the podium ceremony that, for the first time, will take place in the Plaza del Pilar of Zaragoza, which will bring the spirit of the big downs again to the Aragonese capital.

On Saturday, at the first hour, we will move to the second special in the Camp de Maniobras of San Gregorio. The section, which will be held behind closed doors inside the military facilities, will have a tour of 153 km of pure navigation, possibly the most complex special of the whole championship.

In this part, the co-pilots will have to exert themselves to the maximum, making prudence their best ally to get to the end of the special in the best conditions.

Once the second special is over, the teams will be reunited in the assistance park located on the Zuera International Circuit to move on to the second tour of the day, this time in open field, which will go through the low mountain of Zuera in two passes of 104 km each, with a course much faster than the previous of San Gregorio.

Without a doubt, the Zaragoza test can be the turning point in the ranking, where it is not likely to be who runs the most but who makes the fewest mistakes.
