Despite his young age, Canada’s Jonathan Finn is already an experienced rider – at least on circuits. With starting in the FIM World Cup, he has taken on a new challenge but he came to Baja Extremadura occupying a virtual podium position in the standings.
“Hello everyone. My name is Jonathan Finn. I'm here competing in the Baja Extremadura for the first time this year. It's pretty exciting. It's the first year it's a World Cup event. Currently, I'm third overall in the bikes and second in junior, so very happy for me. It’s my first year competing in the World Cup. As a learning year, I'm very happy with my current standings and obviously I'm hoping to improve, but the learning aspect is the most important part, learning the navigation, learning the terrain, how to read terrain, having races in Europe and in the Middle East.
But it's definitely been a heck of a journey to get to this point, started riding motorcycles at the age of five, started racing on the road at six, around gokart tracks with mini bikes, and then progress through the ranks for nearly a decade, ultimately making it into the Spanish championship where I raced and then stepped away from that, took a bit of a breather and moved to the Arabian desert. And from my love of the desert and rally, and here I am now, reading roadbooks and following trip meters and everything, it's definitely a fun experience.
Here we got 2021 CRF 450 RL. I've done some small little tricks and stuff to really make it mine, but it's been doing me really well. She's a stocker and she hasn't let me down yet. So I'm very happy with the Honda. And then obviously with the support of mom and dad, it's really the only reason I'm here. And then RMS is helping me out with the tower and the trip meters and things like that. So they're really helping me out. But yeah, doing good. Privateer life.
Between 2017 and 2019, I was racing in the Spanish Superbike Championship, consistent top 10s, top 15s. It was really great, good team. But yeah, paddock atmosphere. It's anything you could want for asphalt racing, but making the transition over to off road. It's just a new experience. I love it. Can't get away from motorcycles,”
