Old Friends Rally Team duo gears up for world title fight

Alexandre Pinto and Bernardo Oliveira, current leaders of the World Rally-Raid Championship in the SSV category, are just days away from debuting their powerful Polaris RZR Pro in competition at Baja Aragón. The race, part of the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas, will take place from July 25 to 27 in Spain—and it also marks the duo’s first appearance at this iconic event.

Following their sensational Dakar victory behind the wheel of a Can-Am, which propelled them to the top of the SSV standings, the move to Polaris is the latest strategic step by the Old Friends Rally Team. While Baja Aragón isn’t part of the W2RC calendar, it offers the Portuguese duo a valuable opportunity to compete and prepare for the two remaining W2RC rounds—next up is their home round in Portugal.

“This will be our first time at Baja Aragón. I know it’s going to be a tough race, and we’ll be in a brand-new car,” said Alexandre Pinto. “For us, it’s all about learning—how the car behaves, how the race is structured. I’ve been focused on rally stages lately, so this will also help me get back into the baja rhythm. We’ve been preparing well, and the goal is to understand the car and get the best result we can while learning as much as possible.”

The 41st edition of Baja Aragón runs from July 24 to 27, 2025, with its base in Teruel, where the Exhibition and Congress Center will host the paddock. The race officially begins on July 25 with a 7.21 km prologue near Teruel to determine the starting order. Stage one kicks off on July 26 and features 366.08 km of timed sections. The final stage on July 27 adds another 193.37 km, totaling 566.66 km across demanding terrain in the province of Teruel, including routes through Sierra de Albarracín, Jiloca, and Cuencas Mineras.
