Baja Aragon 2024: Bruno Santos finishes the first day in sixth place
Portuguese rider was betting on navigation, but the markings make the race different
Bruno Santos successfully completed the opening stage of the Baja España Aragón, where he faced 340 timed kilometers spread over two selective sectors. In this Baja World Cup event, which brings together some of the best international riders in the sport, the Torres Vedras rider came sixth in a race where the absence of navigation took away one of the great arguments he had to fight for victory.
At the controls of a Husqvarna FE 40 Rally Bruno Santos said that “this first stage was a very long day. Two sections, one of 180 km and the other of 160 km. We left at dawn to cover a total of 520 km and arrived at four in the afternoon. It was cool in the morning, but as the hours passed the heat came on strong. The terrain was very hard with lots of rocks. As I wasn't familiar with these tracks, I rode with some caution. It's turning out to be quite a different race from what I expected because navigation is almost non-existent. There are markings that allow us to ride without having to navigate and I came prepared to navigate, which is what I like to do. I'm in 6th place at the head of the race and tomorrow we'll see what we can do on the second pass through one of today's sections, which is sure to be even tougher after the cars and trucks pass through.”
Tomorrow sees the second and final stage of the 40th edition of the Baja España Aragon, where competitors will have to tackle a final 162.41 km section.
