The first day of competition at the Baja Aragón, a Spanish TT Rally Championship event that also qualifies for the Bajas World Championship, is over. This afternoon, in the Teruel region, the Prologue - which sets the teams up for tomorrow's Stage - was run over 5.8 kilometers, and the teams - after yesterday's rain and thunderstorm - found the track dry and dusty, on a day with very high temperatures.
The Maria Luís Gameiro/José Marques duo completed a section without any major problems, finishing with a time of 4m30s, a mark that earned the Cascais rider second place among the ladies, roughly in the middle of a vast and powerful peloton that is brightening up the Spanish race. This is the fight that matters to the representative of Team Motivo JCB, who, depending on her final result, could also be in a position to celebrate second place in the CERTT in advance.
At the finish, Maria Luís Gameiro confessed that she had “made one or two mistakes, but overall we did well. As you know, you can't recognize the Prologue - a video of it was distributed - and we, with less knowledge of the track, which was exactly the same as in 2023, didn't have all the references, and everything seemed much wider in the pictures. On the track, it turned out not to be the case. However, I can't complain. We rode well and didn't take any risks on this short course where there was much more to lose than there was to gain. It's the two stages, tomorrow and Sunday, that are really important and I'm counting on us to be strong enough to fight for our goals.”
Tomorrow will be the longest of the two stages of the race, consisting of two special stages of 163 and 181 kilometers, to be contested at 6:00 and 15:40 local time respectively
