Baja Aragon 2024: Portuguese pair Maria Luís Gameiro/José Marques are virtual Spanish Cross-Country Vice-Champions
Goal achieved... with distinction!!!
The Maria Luís Gameiro/José Marques duo achieved a historic feat today - in virtual form - by taking second place outright in the Spanish TT Rally Championship. The duo in the Mini JCW Plus, decorated in the Motivo JCB colors, finished the Baja Aragon, a Bajas World Championship event, in a spectacular 22nd place overall, but, more importantly, in eighth place in the overall classification of the Ultimate category in the World Championship, a class in which, in CERTT terms, they climbed to third place. At the same time, Maria Luís Gameiro took second place in the women's World Cup, winning this particular event for the Spanish Championship
This was undoubtedly a high-level day for Team Motivo JCB. The team's goal for this trip to Teruel was to win the vice-championship in advance, and it was with this in mind that they contested each of the 500 or so kilometers of the Spanish Baja. The truth is that the final result clearly exceeds that initial goal and puts the Cascais rider back in the spotlight of the sport.
At the end of this very fruitful weekend of competition, Maria Luís Gameiro commented that “it was a very demanding weekend on several levels. Achieving the objectives was anything but easy. Like yesterday, despite it being a much shorter stage, we again spent a lot of time in the dust with slower competitors who ignored all the overtaking warnings. There are times when it gets desperate... On the other hand, today we were delayed by a puncture, which took away any chance of moving up a few places, but the important thing is that we managed to finish with an excellent result. We won the Spanish vice-championship, a goal that guided us throughout the race... I'm very happy and have my heart set on what lies ahead this year...”
Having completed another stage of the 2024 sports program, Team Motivo JCB will now prepare for the final phase of the season, giving shape to the rider's evolution in order to achieve new and more demanding goals. It's worth remembering that three rounds of the CPTT remain to be completed, including the Baja 500 Portalegre, with the Championship only ending in November.
