Teruel, Spain – July 27, 2025
The Baja España Aragón 2025 ended in spectacular fashion, delivering one of the closest finishes in the rally’s 41-year history. Just two seconds separated the top two crews after nearly 500 kilometers of timed racing.
The final stage, a repeat of the 132 km Argente–Cella route, was even tougher than the day before due to wear from the entire field. Nasser Al-Attiyah and Fabian Lurquin (Dacia Sandrider) started first on the road, knowing the challenge would come from behind—and it did.
Joao Ferreira and Filipe Palmeiro, pushing hard in their Toyota Hilux IMT EVO, delivered a masterclass in precision and speed. Their final push gave them the overall win by the slimmest of margins: just 2 seconds ahead of Al-Attiyah. It’s Ferreira’s first Baja Aragón victory, and the eighth for Toyota, extending the brand’s dominance with five consecutive wins.
Al-Attiyah, a six-time Baja winner, narrowly missed adding a seventh to his record. His performance with new co-driver Lurquin was impressive, but the two-second gap will sting.
In third, Nani Roma and Alex Haro (Ford Raptor T1+) returned to the Baja podium—30 years after Roma’s first Baja victory on a motorcycle back in 1995. It’s been 10 years since his last win at the event, and while he didn’t reach the top step this time, the veteran proved he’s still a contender.
Challenger Class (T3) and SSV
In T3, the Challenger class was turned upside down. Yesterday’s leaders, Fidel Castillo and Cándido Carrera (Taurus), suffered a puncture after racing with brake issues on Day 1 and were bumped off the podium.
Taking advantage, Charles Munster and Loris Pascaud (Taurus) jumped into first, claiming the class win. Andre Lotterer and Alexandre Giroud surged from fifth to second overall in T3—a standout result for Lotterer, the three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner. Pau Navarro and Jan Rosa (Taurus) also fought back from earlier setbacks to finish third.
In the SSV category, Portugal’s Gonçalo Guerreiro and Joel Lutas (Polaris) put on a commanding display, leading the class with authority. Despite late mechanical issues, they still finished 13th overall—just outside the top 10.
Spanish Cross-Country Rally Championship – GT2i
In the Spanish national championship, Félix Macías and José Luis Conde (Toyota) topped the standings, finishing 12th overall and confident they could’ve cracked the top 10 without mechanical trouble.
Fidel Castillo/Cándido Carrera bounced back to take second in the national class (+4:05.3), while Santi Carnicer/Sergio Peinado (Toyota) completed the national podium (+6:41.0).
Notably, the top five in the Spanish standings featured the country’s fastest female drivers:
-
Cristina Gutiérrez / Pablo Moreno (Taurus) in fourth
-
Laia Sanz / Luka Larrosa (Taurus) in fifth
Regularity Class
In the Regularity category, it was a home win for Andrés Fuertes and Marino San José (Toyota Land Cruiser) with just 85.5 penalty points. Joan Pedragosa / Josep Beltri (Toyota Land Cruiser) followed in second (121.2), while Fernando Blanco / Antonio Pomarol (Nissan Frontier) secured third with 133.6 points.
