Registration is open for the first edition of the “Baja dello Stella,” a race valid as the fourth round of the Italian cross country and ssv championship, scheduled to be held in Rivignano Teor on Friday, September 20 and Saturday, September 21. The “Engines of the Stella,” an association that sets up the race, is waiting to receive the adhesions of the big names in the tricolor off-road series: there is time until Friday, September 13 to take part in the race, which will cross the Udine municipalities of Varmo, Talmassons, Pocenia, Palazzolo dello Stella and, of course, Rivignano Teor.
He has already said “yes” to the challenge launched by the organizers Manuele Mengozzi, second in the ranking of the Italian cross country championship. The driver from Forlì will be at the start of the trial on a Toyota Hilux. At his side will sit Cordenons navigator Mirko Brun, with whom the Romagnolo has already taken part in the Italian Baja of Pordenone last July. The two, on the occasion, won the race reserved for the national series and will thus present themselves on the banks of the Stella as one of the crews to beat. Particularly successful is Mengozzi's history in Friuli, as the driver's resume includes a win at last month's Baja but especially the two successes in a row at the Artugna Race (2023 and 2024), the opening leg of the tricolor off-road trophy. On the banks of the Stella he will go on the attack of the leader of the championship standings, Andrea Schiumarini, in the lead with 37 points.
Meanwhile, work on the preparation of the race course by the “Engines of the Stella,” an association thanks to which the Lower Friuli region will host the show of the national cross country and side-by-side series for the first time, is proceeding. Near the event the final route will be unveiled, which will see the passage of off-road and tubular vehicles in a flat geographical region, rich in rivers such as the Stella and touching four provinces between the Livenza River and the mouth of the Timavo River.
