Baja do Oeste de Portugal at the center of decisions Race could decide car champion
Baja do Oeste de Portugal - Portuguese Moto and Car championships preview
Motorcycle frontrunners almost tied for the lead
Between October 6 and 8, the Baja Oeste de Portugal is preparing to welcome the best of the national off-road scene and some of the sport's international stars. For three days, cars, motorcycles, quads and SSVs will invade this region, which has long proved to have a huge number of keen fans of the discipline. The event, organized by Escuderia Castelo Branco, also has a special ingredient: the spiciness of the decisions, as there are categories that may have their champions already defined after this round, which is eligible for the national TT championships, the FIM Baja World Cup and the European Baja Championship, among other competitions.
The municipalities of Alenquer, Azambuja, Bombarral, Cadaval, Óbidos, Sobral de Monte Agraço and Torres Vedras will once again be the stage of excellence for another edition of Baja Oeste de Portugal. This time, Cadaval will be the center of operations for the day prepared by Escuderia Castelo Branco. The town is home to the service park and the entire operational base for the race, with particular emphasis on the starting ceremony, which will take place in an original format.
The motorcycle, quad and SSV competitors will put themselves to the test in the prologue scheduled for Friday afternoon, the 6th. After that, they will join the cars for the symbolic start at 8pm, which will light up the town of Cadaval. The main moments of the competition are reserved for Saturday and Sunday. The bikes, quads and SSVs have 351.28 kilometers to go - plus the 6.28 km prologue the day before - divided into two selective sectors. The cars, meanwhile, will be fighting for the best positions over 357.56 kilometers, divided between the prologue and two sectors against the clock.
"The Baja Oeste de Portugal has consolidated its place in the Portuguese Cross-Country Championship and, in this year's edition, we want to strengthen that position. That's why the whole team has worked to create a demanding course for the teams and a spectacular one for the fans who usually come to see us on the track," explained the race director for the cars, Nuno Almeida Santos.
The race director for motorcycles, Sérgio Sequeira, also said that the organization expects " Baja Oeste de Portugal with well-filled entry lists, because the competitions, whether on motorcycles, quads or SSVs, are in full swing," he said.
The new president of Escuderia Castelo Branco, João Vicente Lucas, praises the hard work done by all the team's members and volunteers. "We have a group of people who, with great dedication, show all their passion, not only for the institution, but also for the sport. It's because of them that we continue to be so active. In addition, we can't fail to highlight the selfless support of the municipalities which, once again, have responded and ensured that the Baja Oeste de Portugal returns to the tracks of this region and has everything it takes to be a success once again," he said.
