The dust is back in the air, engines are roaring once again, and the passion for off-road racing ignited in Aragón with the dramatic start of the Baja España 2025. The legendary rally raid kicked off with a short but electrifying prologue — 6.46 kilometers of pure adrenaline near Gea de Albarracín, where the world’s best riders and drivers left nothing on the table.

With near-perfect conditions and a palpable sense of excitement, fans and crews alike felt the intensity of what lies ahead. The prologue may be brief, but it set the tone for what promises to be a relentless battle across the unforgiving terrain of Teruel. The course was fast, technical, and demanding — the ideal appetizer for a motorsport feast.

From motorcycles and quads to cars, buggies, and trucks, every category brought speed, grit, and emotion. And from the very first timed section, heroes emerged.

In the motorcycles, Lorenzo Santolino (Sherco) put on a masterclass of speed and precision, taking the fastest time and staking his claim for victory early on. Not far behind came Alfredo Pellicer and Alonso Trigo, both on KTM, determined and hungry.

In the quads, it was Portugal’s Tomás Coutinho (Yamaha) who stole the spotlight, flying through the dusty track with power and control.

But it was in the car category that the biggest ovation of the day was heard. Portuguese duo João Ferreira and Filipe Palmeiro, in their Toyota Hilux IMT EVO, were simply untouchable. Their raw pace and perfect harmony behind the wheel gave them the best time of the day, narrowly beating the Polish giants Erik Goczał/Szymon Gospodarczyk and Martin Kaczmarski/Armand Monleón.

Meanwhile, off-road legend Nani Roma, paired with Alex Haro, showed that experience still counts with a strong 4th-place finish, just ahead of Nasser Al-Attiyah/Fabian Lurquin, who are back with a Dacia and no doubt aiming for a comeback.

In the T3 buggy category, young star Pau Navarro, with co-driver Jan Rosa, lit up the track with their Taurus, clocking the fastest time in class. In the SSV T4 class, Gonçalo Guerreiro and Joel Lutas flew the Portuguese flag high with an impressive result inside the overall top 10.

The roar of the big rigs rounded off the day. Spanish trio Javier Mariezcurrena/Ángel Iribarren/Joseba Berasategui (IVECO) stormed to the top in the truck category. Behind them were off-road heavyweights Martin Macík and Richard de Groot, setting the stage for a titanic clash over the coming days.

The adventure is just beginning. Tomorrow, the real test begins with two Selective Sections: SS1 Argente–Cella (cars first) and SS2 Torrijo del Campo–Gea de Albarracín (motorcycles first). A mid-stage service at the Teruel Conference Center will see both categories switch routes — a smart format to keep them separate but equally challenged.
