Baja España Aragón 2026: Teruel Ready to Host Another Chapter of a Rally-Raid Classic
From July 24 to 26, the Baja España Aragón returns for its 42nd edition, once again reinforcing its status as one of the most prestigious and demanding events on the international rally-raid calendar. Counting towards both the FIA World Baja Cup and the FIA European Baja Cup, the Spanish event will bring together many of the discipline’s leading competitors in the rugged landscapes surrounding Teruel.
Few events in rally-raid can match the legacy of Baja Aragón. Since its first edition in 1983, the event has crowned some of the sport’s greatest names, including Ari Vatanen, Jacky Ickx, Pierre Lartigue, Stéphane Peterhansel, Nani Roma and Nasser Al-Attiyah. More recently, Belgium’s Guillaume de Mevius added his name to the winners’ list in 2024, before Portugal’s João Ferreira and Filipe Palmeiro secured a memorable victory in 2025.
The 2026 edition will once again feature a route designed to test both speed and endurance. Competitors will tackle a total itinerary of 864.92 kilometres, including 544.36 kilometres of competitive special stages. The action begins on Friday with a 6.46-kilometre prologue that will determine the starting order for the main stages.
Saturday will host the event’s defining challenge, a demanding 375.90-kilometre special stage that ranks among the longest timed sections of the international baja season. Such a distance leaves little room for mistakes and often proves decisive in the fight for overall victory. Sunday’s 162-kilometre stage will then provide competitors with one final opportunity to gain positions before the finish podium in Teruel.
Unlike many rally-raids that rely on desert terrain, Baja Aragón offers a different challenge. The route is contested entirely on gravel and dirt tracks, combining high-speed sections with technical sectors that demand precision, concentration and mechanical reliability. The event’s reputation has been built on its ability to reward complete crews while punishing even the smallest errors.
The event will also play a significant role in the 2026 championship battles. Competitors in the Ultimate, Stock, Challenger and SSV categories will all have valuable points at stake in both the FIA World Baja Cup and FIA European Baja Cup standings, adding further importance to what is already one of the most coveted victories of the season.
With more than four decades of history, a world-class organisation and a route renowned throughout the rally-raid community, Baja España Aragón continues to stand as one of the benchmark events in the sport. As the championship heads to Teruel in late July, another memorable chapter in the history of this legendary rally appears ready to unfold.
