After a podium finish in the Portuguese round of the World Rally Raid Championship, Bruno Santos was back in the limelight, this time winning the Baja TT Dehesa Extremadura, the opening round of the Bajas World Cup. The Momento TT-backed rider absolutely dominated the competition held in Spain's Extremadura, which this year started in Elvas, and today, after 290 kilometers of the second stage, he finished with a 7m30s lead over the second-placed rider.
At the controls of a Husqvarna FR 450 Rally, the Torres Vedras rider is now in a prominent position in the World Cup, having overcome a race marked by very demanding navigation and disputed on very varied tracks.
“I'm naturally very pleased with this victory in a World Cup race, but it was a very tiring day. It was a lot of kilometers and on a slower and tougher route than the Rally Raid stage here. On the route where the cars had already passed, the track was quite rough. The navigation was also very demanding because the road book had a lot of notes and I was the one who opened up the track throughout the race. I felt good and managed to set a good pace. The race had several neutralizations and I was able to get an idea of the advantage I had over my opponents, which allowed me to run a well-controlled race,” said two-time national Rally Raid champion Bruno Santos on his arrival in Badajoz, at the end of the Baja TT Dehesa Extremadura.
Bruno Santos returns to competition in the Algarve, Portugal, where from May 17 to 19 he will compete in the Baja TT Lagos, the fourth stage of the National Cross-Country Championship.
