Driver with a very significant lead in the Stock category at the Bajas World Cup round
Fernando Barreiros, at the wheel of an Isuzu D-Max and navigated by José Sá Pires, won today’s first stage of the Baja Greece among the competitors in the Stock Category of this round of the Bajas World Cup. The driver from Loures was the fastest in both sections, which together totalled around 350 timed kilometres.
“Today went fantastically for us. We won the first stage with a very significant advantage. We pushed hard in the opening sector, held this morning, and the result came, which allowed us to manage the pace in the afternoon sector. My co-driver did an excellent job, our assistance team gave us a flawless car, and I was able to drive well — clean, mistake‑free and very effective,” said Fernando Barreiros at the end of the stage.
José Sá Pires, for his part, said: “I started with some anxiety because we were heading into a mountain area I didn’t know, and I was using a different tablet for navigation than the one I’ve used in other events. The route was fantastic, with stunning landscapes; we drove through areas at 1,900 metres of altitude. Navigation was demanding, but we had no major difficulties and fortunately everything went well.”
Tomorrow will be the final stage of Baja Greece, which is being held in the mountains of Western Macedonia, around Argos Orestiko and the mountainous areas of Vitsi and Grammos, where the competition is marked by long dirt sections, technical routes and high altitudes.
