Portuguese driver secures important victory in the FIA World Baja Cup

Fernando Barreiros claimed an important victory in the third round of the FIA World Baja Cup by winning the Stock Category at Baja Greece. Driving an Isuzu D-Max and navigated by José Sá Pires, the Portuguese driver celebrated his first World Baja Cup appearance of the 2026 season with a class win that lifts him to fourth place in the championship standings.

“It was fantastic. Once again, we had a very successful day. We were the fastest in both selective sections of the second stage, which allowed us to secure an important victory in the World Baja Cup in our first event of the season.
We experienced a minor mechanical issue that was quickly resolved, in what was a very interesting but extremely demanding rally that tested all of us. My sincere thanks go to everyone who supports us, and I hope this is the first positive step towards the successful campaign we want to achieve in this World Cup,” said Fernando Barreiros at the finish.

Co-driver José Sá Pires also expressed his satisfaction with the result: “I arrived at Baja Greece with great curiosity and I was certainly not disappointed. This region in northern Greece, close to the Macedonian border, offers stunning landscapes and very interesting stages.
I was a little concerned when the organisers warned us about possible navigation device errors, as several parts of the route crossed over sections with different kilometre references. Fortunately, none of those issues affected us and we completed the navigation without any major difficulties.
Today we also had two unforgettable experiences: we came across a bear and, later on, a roe deer, which gives a good idea of the remote and wild terrain we were competing in.”

The FIA World Baja Cup now moves on to the 33rd Italian Baja, which will take place in Pordenone, Italy, from June 25 to 28.
