Participants in Poland's most famous off-road rally will commemorate General Mieczyslaw Boruta-Spiechowicz, the hero of Poland's struggle for independence, on Sunday (25.08).

This is the result of cooperation between the Baja Poland Foundation - organizers of the rally included in the calendar of the FIA World Cup in Baja rallies - and the Szczecin Branch of the Institute of National Remembrance. The event, scheduled for August 23-25, is also an event included in the Polish and Czech championship calendars.

On Friday, participants and fans will be treated to a prologue in Szczecin. On Saturday, two clashes are scheduled on an oesse set at the Drawsko firing range. In turn, Sunday will see the final special section from Slawoszewo to Szczecin. It will bear the name of General Mieczyslaw Boruta-Spiechowicz - an independence activist, officer of the 2nd Brigade of the Polish Legions, participant in the Battle of Rancza. In 1918 he was one of the defenders of Lviv. In 1941, at the request of General Wladyslaw Anders, he became commander of the 5th Vilnius Infantry Division. After the war, he was associated with Szczecin. He lived in Skolwin, where he ran a farm for 20 years. He was a participant in the famous Solidarity convention in 1981. He was awarded, among other honors, the Silver Cross of the Order of Virtuti Militari.

The winners of this special undercard in the categories of off-road cars, trucks, quads, motorcycles and SSVs will receive trophies from the director of the Szczecin branch of the IPN. The commemorative trophies will be presented at the rally's closing ceremony, which will take place around 1 pm on Wały Chrobrego in Szczecin. An exhibition on this hero of Poland's struggle for independence, associated with Szczecin, will be on display near the stage.

In addition, the memory of Gen. Boruta-Spiechowicz will be commemorated in a special way by three well-known motorcyclists who, as the Boruta Group, will ride in a rally with the image of this hero on their clothes and helmets. They are Bartlomiej Tabin - the current Polish champion in off-road rallies, who brought back a medal from this year's Dakar Rally. Also riding with him will be Rev. Marian Augustyn - parish priest in Szczecin's Dabie - organizer of the motorcycle pilgrimage “From Cross to Cross” and Jan Ślusarczyk, among others.

A total of 236 riders from 20 countries will compete in Baja Poland. The BMW X3 will be driven by nine-time Baja Poland triumpher Krzysztof Holowczyc together with Lukasz Kurzeja. The Toyota Hilux Overdrive will be started by the Saudi-German duo Yazeed Al-Rajhi/Timo Gottschalk. In the truck class, the Tatra Evo3, Tatra Phoenix, Iveco Powerstar Torpedo and Tatra FF7 4×4 will take to the track.

The organizers of the event are the Baja Poland Foundation and the Polish Motor Association. Co-organizers of the rally are the city of Szczecin, the municipalities and towns of Drawsko Pomorskie and Dobra Szczecinska municipality and the partner is the Szczecin branch of the Institute of National Remembrance.
