The excitement is in the air and Portalegre is already vibrating with the sound of engines. Next weekend, the city will once again be the capital of national off-road racing and Nuno Matos is returning “home” to finally make his Amarok Proto debut on a stage where he has already been happy and where he is incredibly loved.
Returning to the mythical Baja Portalegre 500, where in 2016 he was Absolute National Champion and in 2023 he was T8 National Champion, Nuno Matos doesn't hide his enthusiasm for once again competing in a race that, due to its tracks and spectacular surroundings, “is unique on the national and international scene”.
“We know the difficulties we're going to encounter, especially in a very competitive category, which will bring the best to Portalegre, but we're prepared, we want to be at our best and we're also counting on the support of the public, who have a huge passion for this Baja,” says the driver.
After the victory that allowed the team to become National Champions in T8 in the last edition, Nuno Matos and Ricardo Claro are preparing to race the Amarok Proto for the first time in Baja Portalegre and want to repeat the good performance in the Baja TT Norte de Portugal, where they won a place in the Top 10 in the overall standings.
“Our team has been working hard on our Amarok Proto, we're ready to compete and contribute to this great off-road festival, and we also hope to have luck on our side to be happy again in Portalegre, a race that is very special to me, for Ricardo and for all those who accompany us and believe in this project,” he says, thanking everyone for their affection and support next weekend as they travel along the route to celebrate another edition of Portugal's premier off-road event, the Baja Portalegre 500.
The Baja festivities begin with the starting ceremony, which will once again take place in the Avenida da Liberdade garden, starting at 9.30pm on Thursday. On Friday morning, the Prologue will be held at Herdade das Coutadas, and in the afternoon the first 70-kilometer selective sector. On Saturday, the car drivers will do two more selective sectors of 166 kilometers, making for a total of around 440 timed kilometers.
