Baja TT Dehesa de Extremadura 2023: Pol is happy with her performance in Spanish Baja
Mirjam Pol may have had to gain an advantage over Spain's Sara Alverez but she still looks back on the 2023 Baja TT Dehesa Extremadura with a good sense of accomplishment. "This weekend I rode well. For myself, I can say that, especially because of the track conditions that do not suit me so much, I was challenged to step up my pace again. And once again that worked out very well. Actually, it is a continuous learning process with the ultimate goal of mastering all types of terrain as good as possible so that I can be optimally 'all-round' in the Dakar rally."
Leaving big names behind her
Mirjam finished fourth in the general FIM standings, leaving some big names behind her. Mirjam: "Guys I really could not keep up with last year have now finished behind me. It gives me a good feeling that I can keep up with the top and that I am not subordinate to the top riders in the ranking. Meanwhile, I keep gaining World Cup points and that too gives a good feeling.”
"Yes, of course it is a pity that I did not win but the feeling that I rode well and therefore I can still improve is really quite predominant with me at the moment!", Pol informed.
At the end of this competition day, the difference between the Spanish girl and Pol turned out to be only 1.53minutes. She once again scored points for the women's classification but also for the 450CC classification in the FIM Bajas World Cup 2023.
In Spain, she could count again on the assistance of Henkjan Somsen and that gave her peace of mind in the preparation and of course during the race. When we speak to her on Sunday evening, they both were waiting for the awards ceremony on the podium after which they will pack up and heading for the journey back to the Netherlands.
