Ever wondered who was the first registered entry for the 2023 Baja Extremadura? Well, we asked the organisers, and it was none other than Ghislain de Mevius, who will, of course, drive an OT3 of G Rally team with his faithful co-driver, Johan Jalet.

The name de Mevius is synonymous with rally driving in Belgium. With 15 years of experience under his belt, Ghislain de Mevius has amassed numerous victories and podium finishes in the Belgian Rally Championship, and has even won the prestigious WRC Rally Deutschland in 2015 in Junior WRC category, finishing third in the championship. However, his accomplishments don't end there. In 2013, he was named the Best Junior in the Belgium Rally, further solidifying his status as one of the country's most talented drivers.

He’s no stranger to cross-country rallies either – following in the footsteps of his father, Gregoire de Mevius. Andalucia Rally 2021 became a family reunion for the de Meviuses, with the brothers, Ghislain and Guillaume also participating alongside their father, Gregoire, causing some confusion among those who wanted to find out which G. de Mevius is who on the classifications. A further source of funny stories is the similar looks of Ghislain and Guillaume: people often feel puzzled about who is who.

Nowadays G Rally team is known as Guillaume’s venture, however, it belongs to both brothers and originally it was started by Ghislain. He was also the first of the brothers to set his foot in cross-country rallies, when he started in an almost production Yamaha five years ago.

Baja Extremadura will be the first time Ghislain de Mevius will drive an OT3 in a rally, but definitely not the last as he plans to start in all rounds of the European Cup.
