Baja TT Montes Alentejanos 2025: Nuno Matos returns to competition with his VW Amarok Proto
Next weekend marks the start of the off-road championships and the return of Nuno Matos and Ricardo Claro to competition. It will be in Beja, at the Baja TT Montes Alentejanos, in a race highly praised by both the drivers and the public, that the duo from Porto will inaugurate the second year of the T3 project with the Volkswagen Amarok Proto, which is also ready to return to the Portuguese Cross-Country Championship (CPTT), which will have seven races in 2025.
Aware that the first year of this new project didn't have the necessary reliability for the team and the car to show their full potential, Nuno Matos recalls that the season ended with a good performance in the Baja Oeste de Portugal and confesses that, since then, the whole team has been working hard to be in top form at the start of the competition.
“Last season was one of learning and great challenges, and we know we still have a lot of work ahead of us, but we're confident and excited to get back to doing what we love most. The Baja TT Montes Alentejanos is an excellent event, traditionally held on fast, demanding and fun tracks,” he says.
With the engines warming up for the season that is about to start, Nuno Matos made a point of thanking Ricardo Claro and the whole team once again, the partners and sponsors, and everyone who, both on and off the track, believes in this project.
“We know where we want to go and that we still have a long way to go, but we are very happy and proud to have on our side those who share our passion and trust in this 100 percent national project, which was born with the contribution of a very special person, who left us recently, and whom we already miss very much,” said the driver, in a reference to the late Fernando Santos, founder of DEpieres, the creator of the Amarok Proto chassis.
The Baja TT Montes Alentejanos takes place from February 13 to 16, in Beja, and the competition starts on Friday with a 10-kilometer prologue. On Saturday and Sunday, the first and second selective sectors will be held, both with 170 timed kilometers.
