Nine T1+ Machines Headline the Alentejo Classic
Big international names set to shine in Portugal’s Alentejo

With just one week to go, anticipation is soaring for the 37th edition of the Baja TT Sharish Gin Reguengos/Mourão, organized by the Motorsport Section of Sociedade Artística Reguenguense.

And the entry list is nothing short of spectacular: the FIA field includes nine T1+ beasts — six Toyotas and three Minis — ready to tear through the Alentejo dirt.

Among the Toyota armada we’ll see Yazeed Al Rajhi, two-time World Cup champion (2021, 2022) and reigning Dakar Rally winner; Portuguese star João Ferreira, fresh off victory at Baja Aragón; American prodigy Seth Quintero, 2023 T3 World Champion; South African champion Henk Lategan; plus Francisco Barreto and Polish contender Wlodzimierz Grajek, currently 3rd in the FIA European Baja Cup.

The Mini JCW squad brings firepower too, with Guillaume de Mévius and Denis Krotov representing X-Raid, leaders of the European Cup, while Alejandro Martins makes his long-awaited comeback.

In the Challenger class, eyes turn to the triple Taurus lineup of Team Transfradelos — Tiago Reis, Edgar Reis, and Daniel Silva — leading the Portuguese Championship. Also in the spotlight: European Cup leader Miguel Angel Valero (Can-Am) and Portugal’s own Amândio Alves, behind the wheel of a Kaizen.

The SSV division is no less thrilling. Gonçalo Guerreiro (Polaris), fresh from a win at Baja Aragón and overall leader of the Portuguese Championship, is the man to beat. But keep an eye on Afonso Oliveira, just 18 years old, spearheading Santag Racing and already leading both the European Cup’s SSV and Junior standings.

The national T1 contenders are equally fierce: César Sequeira (Mercedes) heads the CPTT standings, alongside Sérgio Matos, José Rogeira, Jorge Cardoso, Edgar Condenso, and Lino Carapeta, all chasing national glory.

The national entry also features other CPTT leaders: Johannes Senders (Fiat Fullback Proto, top of T8), Sérgio Mourato (Nissan Navara, leader in T9), plus a strong Ladies’ Trophy lineup with Sarah Senders and Leonor Barreto tied at the top, joined this weekend by Margarida Sá (Suzuki) and newcomer Anabela Reis (Can-Am). In T2, rising star Vasco Franco will go head-to-head with Sarah Senders.

In total, competitors face 697.62 km, of which 417.53 km are against the clock.

The action begins Friday morning, September 12, with a 5.71 km prologue in Mourão. Saturday serves up two 116.16 km stages between Granja and Alandroal, before Sunday’s double run of an 89.70 km test from Casas Novas de Mares to Reguengos. The winners will be crowned at the awards ceremony in Reguengos, Sunday at 5:30 PM.
