Gonçalo Guerreiro triumphs at bp Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal, round 4 of the W2RC

The bp Ultimate Adventure Team climbed to the top step of the podium at the bp Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal 2025, the fourth round of the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC), with Gonçalo Guerreiro taking an emphatic win in the Challenger category after also securing victory on the final stage.

Driving a Tauros, the young Portuguese talent not only dominated Challenger from the opening stage to the last, but also finished an impressive 6th overall — just 20 seconds shy of the reigning world champion — and was the best-placed Portuguese competitor in the rally organized by ACP.

“This was a great result. I’m really happy. We won the Challenger category, leading almost from the very first stage to the last. We finished with a margin of nearly 17 minutes, which makes me very proud. The team did an excellent job. I want to thank all the mechanics, and especially Nasser Al-Attiyah for the opportunity to be part of his team. ACP and bp organized an excellent event and I’m sure all competitors share this opinion. Now it’s time to focus on the next races, but I’m very happy with this outcome,” said a delighted Gonçalo Guerreiro.

There was more reason to celebrate for the team as Martim Ventura also climbed the podium on the final stage, taking 3rd place in Rally2: “It was a tough day because of the knocks from the previous stages, after the crashes I suffered in the dust. I wasn’t feeling great on the bike today, but the important thing was to reach the finish. Looking back, I showed good pace, but a lot was left hidden because nearly 70% of the rally was ridden in dust. It was an adventure — a pity about what happened on the first day. Everything was new: bike, team, and maybe I faced it all with too much anxiety. But despite that, this was a dream week, an experience few get to live. And to cap it off, I won yesterday’s stage finishing in Lisbon, in front of my home crowd. That was incredible,” said the Honda HRC rider.

Meanwhile, the duo Luís Portela Morais/David Megre endured more frustration: “The most important thing is that we finished this round of the world championship. That was essential for me. I’m also satisfied because, after so much time without racing, whenever we had no problems, we were at the front or fighting for top positions. We need to understand why certain things didn’t work, learn the lesson and fix them. Today we lost power after just 30 kilometers. We even stopped to replace a part, but it didn’t solve it. On the way to Lisbon, on the climbs, the car wouldn’t go beyond 30 km/h. It’s a new car and I also need to adapt to it. We’ll work hard to be at full strength for the Baja Portalegre 500,” said the Portuguese driver.

The bp Ultimate Adventure Team riders will be back in action soon: some from October 10–17 at the Rallye du Maroc, the final round of the W2RC, and others from October 23–25 at the Baja Portalegre 500.
