BP Ultimate Rally Raid Portugal 2025: What to Expect on Day Two
On September 24, competitors will face a brutal 426 km stage. The morning begins with a long liaison, launching the convoy deep into the heart of the Alentejo. Then comes the day’s main challenge — a massive 300 km special stage that will drag crews back toward Grândola. And just when they think it’s over, a final 5 km sprint stage awaits in the same spot as the prologue — a symbolic return to the start line, but this time with fatigue, dust, and battle scars weighing heavy.
Into the wide-open Alentejo
This second day of the Portugal Rally Raid pushes competitors across the vast open spaces of the Alentejo — a territory where terrain is as decisive as navigation itself. The organizers are keeping the suspense alive: official details won’t be released until 72 hours before the race. What follows is a general look at the region, the canvas where the W2RC caravan is expected to carve its tracks.
Alentejo in late summer: from sand to solid ground
The forecast is clear: hard, dry, dusty terrain, the trademark of late summer in the Alentejo. Competitors will tackle long stretches of compact dirt roads — perfect for blistering speed, but treacherous when suspended dust blinds the way. A touch of rain may fall before race day, though it’s unlikely to change much… unless it pours as it did in 2024, in which case the special could turn into a true puzzle, even for the most seasoned sand experts.
After the soft sands of Grândola’s prologue, Stage 2 shifts to far more consistent ground. The massive SS1, almost 300 km long, promises fast, flowing tracks on solid dirt interspersed with narrow farm trails and technical Alentejo backroads. Yet as the kilometers tick down, the landscape changes once again: the sand creeps back, setting the stage for SS2 — a short, brutal loop over the same sandy terrain as the prologue.
Expectation in the air
Until the route details are officially unveiled, only one thing is certain: Stage 2 will showcase the Alentejo in its raw summer glory — fast, dry, and unforgiving tracks that will test not only the speed of the machines but also the endurance, strategy, and adaptability of every competitor.
