Portuguese rider Bruno Santos stood out today by winning the Rally2 category in the opening stage of the bp Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal, the second round of the World Rally-Raid Championship and the only event held on European soil, which took place around Grândola.

Riding his Husqvarna, the Torres Vedras native also secured an excellent fifth place overall in the motorcycle standings on a stage marked by difficult weather conditions. Overnight rain left the tracks heavily muddy and technically demanding, with several water crossings and deep mud sections, increasing the level of difficulty for both riders and machines.

At the end of the day, Bruno Santos expressed his satisfaction with the result and his performance in the special stage. The rider starts tomorrow well positioned to fight for the top places in the standings.

“Today we completed the first stage, a proper racing day. Although it wasn’t very long, the special was quite demanding because it rained all night, leaving the tracks very muddy, with many water crossings and puddles. I was able to make good use of the tracks and ride fast. I finished fifth overall and won the Rally2 category, so I’m very happy with the result. Tomorrow we head into the Ribatejo region, where we’ll face some faster sections with higher speeds. I’m happy to start this rally well and be in a strong position to aim for a good result as we finish the day in Spain,” said the rider supported by Momento TT.

The second stage of the BP Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal will take place tomorrow, linking Grândola to Badajoz, in Spain. The route will feature 377 kilometres against the clock, promising a demanding day with sections through the Ribatejo region.
