Portuguese rider takes 2nd in Rally2 and 5th overall in Stage 4 of the Rally-Raid Portugal

The Portuguese national off-road champion Micael Simão delivered an impressive performance today at the bp Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal, the European round of the World Rally-Raid Championship, which features the world’s top riders. He set the 5th fastest time in Stage 4, which included 317 timed kilometres across a route split between Spain and Portugal. In what is his debut season in W2RC competition, the Alcoutim rider—supported by ACP and riding a KTM—also secured 2nd place in the Rally2 class, moving up to 4th overall in that category.

“I really enjoyed the special in Spain. When we entered the Portuguese section of the route, around Reguengos, the track became more treacherous, but everything was going well. I even reached 3rd place overall, but then I had a crash that left me a bit sore and I lost my rhythm. Still, I’m happy—I achieved a good result and now that I’m on home ground, I’ll push tomorrow, without taking risks, to finish this learning race in the best possible way,” said the rider at the bivouac in Loulé. He is supported, among others, by Bigdog Design, Racestars Racing, Polisport and CliReg.

The final stage of the bp Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal, starting and finishing in Loulé, will feature a short 101-kilometre timed special, plus an additional 190 kilometres of liaison.
