bp Ultimate Rally Raid Portugal 2026: Technical issues hamper Mitchel and Bart
“The water caused us a lot of problems”
BADAJOZ – Mitchel van den Brink and Bart van Heun were once again hit by technical setbacks during the third stage of the BP Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal.
A podium finish was within reach in this third stage. However, the Eurol Rally Sport duo had to accept that technical issues got in the way of their sporting ambitions.
Mitchel and Bart got off to a strong start. But the third stage in Portugal ended on a disappointing note. “Unfortunately, it was another stage that didn’t go our way. The water caused us a lot of issues. Various malfunctions. We got stuck in a river because the engine stalled. Today we went through a lot. For example, we had to dry out the connector again. In the end, it just wasn’t our day. It’s a shame, but we’re already looking ahead to tomorrow,” said Mitchel, who is competing this week for Daklapack Rallysport in a Taurus in the Challenger category in this highly competitive rally in Portugal.
The special stage, which started and finished at the bivouac in Badajoz, covered 296 kilometres. In addition, there was a 205-kilometre liaison section.
Saturday features the fourth and longest stage of the Rally-Raid Portugal. Alongside a 322-kilometre liaison, there will be a 317-kilometre timed special. The event concludes on Sunday with a 101-kilometre special around the finish location of Loulé.
